Ray and Cathy have been in love for many years, they share history, family, a home and a big secret! They invited their close family and friends to a summer celebration for Ray’s 50th birthday party, and they told everyone to be on time because there was a big surprise planned. What Cathy and Ray knew, that no one else did (except his children and me,) was that they were finally going to get married right there in the backyard. As their wedding celebrant and wedding officiant, I worked with this couple weeks in advance, and slipped into the party in shorts and sneakers, just like the rest of the family. We waited a few minutes for the rain to pass, and I took over the microphone from their DJ, and worked a birthday welcome, into the opening of a wedding ceremony. As I slipped into an officiant robe, their friends and family realized it was not a joke, and they started to cry, laugh, and cheer! Ray wanted to give rather than receive on his birthday, and he and Cathy chose to give their families the opportunity to share in the celebration of their love. Ray said “in all my years on this planet, the person that has made them all worth it, is Cathy. There is no better way to celebrate my birthday.” Cathy also mentioned, he has no excuse for ever forgetting their anniversary:)
Weddings like this, surrounded by family and friends, focused on the love shared by a wonderful couple is one of the reasons I love being a Connecticut Wedding Officiant!
Thank you for creating a ceremony that worked for our unique blend of cultures and was just right for our perspective. You listened and heard every detail we ever mentioned and wove them together seamlessly. How do you do that??
